Boost Team Performance with Motivational Maps®

Hello! I’m Sarah Stones, and I’m excited to share my approach to working with teams using Motivational Maps®. Understanding and enhancing motivation within a team is crucial for achieving exceptional performance and well-being. Here’s some insight into how I work with teams…
Step 1: Assessing motivation with Motivational Maps®
The first step in my process is to assess the current levels of motivation within the team. Each team member completes their own Motivational Map® to identify their unique motivators.
We then move onto a 1-1 confidential Motivational Coaching Session providing feedback on an individual’s Motivational Map® Report and helping them to understand their motivators and what they mean for them.
Step 2: Team reports
Once we have the individual reports, I create a comprehensive team report that gives us a clear picture of where everyone stands in terms of where they get their energy from and whether those motivational needs are being met.
Additionally, I generate specific reports for line managers, highlighting the key motivators of their direct reports. This tailored approach ensures that managers are equipped with valuable insights to support and engage their teams effectively.
Step 3: Workshops for understanding and enhancing motivation
To kickstart the journey, I recommend a one-day, bespoke workshop, which is tailored to address your team’s unique needs. During this workshop, we delve into:
- Why understanding motivation is important: Exploring the impact of motivation on performance and well-being.
- How to support ourselves and those around us: Practical strategies for boosting motivation within the team.
- Using our new knowledge: Applying motivational insights to improve interactions with colleagues and customers/clients.
The content of these workshops is guided by the needs of your organisation and the motivational profiles of the group. For instance, if the team has high “Searcher” (making a difference) and “Creator” (problem-solving and innovation) motivators, the workshop will be interactive and dynamic. If “Defender” (security) motivators are prevalent, the session will focus more on stability and routine.
Step 4: Empowering line managers
Line managers play a pivotal role in maintaining team motivation. I work with line managers to understand their own motivation and the best way to support their team with their new knowledge of their items motivational needs to increase engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
By following this structured approach, I ensure that each team not only understands their unique motivators but also learns practical strategies to enhance motivation and performance.
