Understanding energy for motivation (and making a cup of tea!)

I don’t know about you, but the first thing I do in the morning is put the kettle on for tea. It’s a ritual, a simple act that starts my day. But when you break it down, making a cup of tea is really about something much bigger…energy!
At home, I plug in the electric kettle. If I’m camping, I use gas. If I’m out in the wilderness, I build a fire. Different environments require different energy sources, but the goal remains the same; a really good cup of tea.
And isn’t that true for so many things in life? The energy we need depends on the situation. In our work, in our relationships, in our personal growth, we have to recognise what kind of energy will get us to our goal. Sometimes, a quick, efficient boost (like an electric kettle) is perfect. Other times, we need something more enduring, like a steady campfire that requires patience and care.
How often do we find ourselves using the wrong energy for the task at hand? Burning out because we’re trying to power through when we really need to slow down? Or waiting for inspiration to strike when we actually just need to plug in and get started?
So here’s my challenge for you: The next time you make a cup of tea (or coffee, or whatever your ritual is) ask yourself: What kind of energy do I need today? Am I forcing an electric solution when I really need a slow burn? Or am I waiting for a fire to build when I just need to flip a switch?
Because when we understand energy, we make better decisions, better progress and ultimately, a better life.
