A bright moment at the Motivational Maps® Conference in Bournemouth
Attending the recent Motivational Maps® Conference in Bournemouth was inspiring. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other practitioners, share insights, and deepen my understanding of this incredible tool that has been so pivotal in my journey.
One of the highlights was a chance encounter with a parent of a young person I’d previously conducted a Motivational Map® for. This parent shared how they were struck by my use of the imagery of a lighthouse when describing the ‘Defender’ motivator which is all about liking security and stability. I often liken those with a strong ‘Defender’ motivation to a lighthouse—liking to stay in their comfort zone, enjoying security, predictability, and stability in the face of change. It’s wonderful to know that this metaphor resonated so deeply and helped make the concept more relatable and easier to understand for both the young person and their family.
My passion for Motivational Maps® has been recognised in a recent write-up by the Motivational Maps® team. It’s such a joy to be part of this journey, from becoming a Licensed Practitioner to now training others to become Licensed Practitioners themselves. With every client I work with, my love for this tool only grows.
The write-up perfectly captures why understanding what motivates us is so essential. Knowing our intrinsic motivators allows us to align our actions with what truly drives us, leading to greater fulfilment in both personal and professional life.

I left Bournemouth feeling re-energised, even more committed to helping people unlock their potential by understanding their motivators, and excited for the many possibilities ahead. Thank you to everyone who made the conference such a memorable event. Here’s to more lightbulb moments, deeper connections, and, of course, more wonderful metaphors to help people understand how their motivation can help them soar!
